Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘disturbed’ after latest update in duke’s visa row

A royal commentator has claimed that  and  find  “disturbing.”

In September 2024, US judge Carl Nichols ruled that the public did not have a strong interest in disclosure of the duke’s immigration records, but the Heritage Foundation is asking for the judgment to be changed.

The judge agreed to reopen the case and ordered lawyers for all parties to appear in court for a “motion for relief from judgment” hearing in Washington DC on Wednesday.

It is the first time the case has been in the US courts since returned to office last month.

The Heritage Foundation brought the lawsuit against the Department for Homeland Security (DHS) after a Freedom of Information Act request was rejected, with the think tank claiming it was of “immense public interest”.

In his controversial memoir, the duke said cocaine “didn’t do anything for me”, adding: “Marijuana is different, that actually really did help me.”

Under US law, while not constituting an automatic ban, drug use can be grounds to reject a visa application.

The Heritage Foundation’s lawsuit argued that US law “generally renders such a person inadmissible for entry” to the country.

Now royal commentator Jennie Bond claimed the latest update should be “worrying” for the Sussex couple.

She told the : “There’s no doubt that President Trump’s return to the White House means that this is squeaky bum time for Harry.

“So the fact the judge has now cast a certain amount of doubt over whether his visa application can remain private must be worrying for the Prince. Basically, I think Harry is now pretty much on a yellow card.”

She added: “The judge’s remarks were quite guarded….he is ‘not foreclosing the possibility of some relief’.

“But it’s the first time we have heard a legal opinion that ‘maximum disclosure’ within the bounds of maintaining privacy might be required. And that must make disturbing reading for Harry and Meghan.”
