Man Utd star ‘should be fined a week’s wages’ after Leicester FA Cup win

ITV Sport commentator Lee Dixon claimed wing-back Noussair Mazraoui should be fined a week’s wages after a second-half foul throw during their fourth-round win over on Friday night.

United won 2-1 after a turnaround at Old Trafford against the Premier League strugglers with Harry Maguire heading a 93rd-minute winner against his old club at the Stretford End.

But in the 51st minute, United had the ball deep in their own half when Moroccan defender Mazraoui was punished by referee Michael Salisbury for an incorrect throw-in. A free-kick was then awarded to Leicester.

Commentator Sam Matterface noted: “That was a foul throw.” Before co-commentator Dixon added: “Absolutely that was a foul throw.

“I mean he should be fined a week’s wages for that! How can’t you throw a ball in? You don’t see it very often but there you go.”

Mazraoui is reported by to earn £135,000 a week at United having joined from Bayern Munich last season. He performed a superb tackle to thwart a second-half Leicester counter-attack at 1-1.

A second-half comeback spared some blushes at Old Trafford as ’s men came from 1-0 down to book their spot in the fifth-round draw.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid had headed relegation-threatened Leicester in front from close range just before half-time but substitute Joshua Zirkzee pulled the hosts level with 22 minutes to go before Maguire’s late winner.

Despite United’s victory, only their second at Old Trafford in their last seven matches across all competitions, Amorim’s charges were abject for the first hour.

Legendary former United captain tore into the first-half performance at half-time while on punditry for ITV.

He told ITV Sport: “It’s shocking. Really, really poor. You start looking at this United team, at all the stats, no shot on target, I think two shots on target against Crystal Palace.

“They’re actually boring now. You feel like you should go into that dressing room and remind the players what the game is about.

“There’s a goal at that end [pointing] you’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net. It’s as if they’re not even aware of it.

“Leicester haven’t been that great, but they’ve been a bit sharper and they deserve to be in front. Now we’re looking for another reaction from this United team, nowhere near good enough. There’s no energy, there’s no energy in the stadium.”

Half-time sub Alejandro Garnacho was key as United sent former interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy back to the Midlands disappointed.
