Kindle Scribes are getting a smart update
The all-new Kindle Scribe is, without a doubt, Amazon’s ultimate e-reader. It features a 10.2-inch 300PPI glare-free display, speedy page turns, a backlight for reading at night and a premium design that ditches plastic for metal. It also comes with the better Pen Pro as standard which lets you takes notes, scribble on books and jot down ideas as you read.
As you can read in our full , it’s a very nice device, but it lacks some must-have features.
Those on the other side of the pond have access to a swathe of smart upgrades, including the ability to tidy up one’s handwriting and make quick summaries of notes.
Now, after a very long wait, Amazon is finally ready to unleash these updates in the UK. From this week, owners of the new Scribe will finally be able to use things such as AI-powered notebook summarisation and AI-powered handwriting refinement.
Amazon says it will start rolling out the boost from now so keep an eye on your settings if you own a 2024 Scribe.

Here are all the new features launching now
AI-powered notebook summarisation
Powered by generative AI, this will allow you to quickly create a synopsis of your notes so you can turn your ideas into actions. When in your notebook, simply click on the AI Icon and then select the “Summarise” feature to automatically convert your notes into concise bullets. The summaries are provided in a script font, so they’re easy to read and share, while ensuring the look and feel of handwritten notes.
AI-powered handwriting refinement
If you’re scribbling in a hurry, or don’t have the tidiest handwriting, you can now turn hand-written notes into four different script fonts for a more elegant look. While you’re in a notebook, just click the AI icon and select “Refine writing” to quickly convert into a script font.
New way to use Active Canvas
You can now take notes in margins, expand them for longer notes, or collapse them to see the original page. To open a margin, use the Pen to tap the icon in the top corner. Then, write as much as you’d like, and tap the icon again to close the margin. Your thoughts will be neatly stored away until you want to reread or edit them and are tied to the relevant text, so they’re always in context, even if you change font sizes.
