The Vanishings is airing on Channel 5 soon and the six-part crime drama is a dramatisation of true stories from Ireland’s Vanishing Triangle. The term is commonly used by the Irish media to describe a number of high-profile disappearances of Irish women from the late 80s and 90s.

The cases remain unsolved and there was also a number of women who were murdered within the triangle, which is in the eastern part of the island. Police expected there may have been a serial killer at large due to the similarities in the cases.

All of the women’s ages ranged from late teens to late 30s and they all disappeared suddenly without any obvious explanation. Despite police setting up Operation Trace to help get information, no substantial evidence has ever emerged.

The Channel 5 series follows India Mullen as Lisa Wallace, and investigative journalist who writes about the death of her mother. She joins forces with detective David Burkely when a killer resurfaces.
