has endured nothing short of a nightmare start to his reign after walking away from his domain of dominance at Sporting in November. United are languishing 13th in the with just 29 points, 28 goals and a -6 goal difference from 24 games.

Amorim has tasted defeat seven times in his first 13 league matches at the helm, more than in his final 75 such outings as Sporting boss.

And Richard Keys believes the Portuguese tactician will want out of Old Trafford already as toxicity sizzles to an all-time high in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

United looked to be turning a corner after following a commendable draw at by knocking out of the FA Cup at the Emirates Stadium.

The Red Devils also beat Southampton, Rangers and Fulham to extend their positive run of results to five wins in six.

However, two weeks after Brighton and Hove Albion were 3-1 winners at Old Trafford, United lost on home turf again against Crystal Palace last Sunday.

The 2-0 defeat flattened the mood once again ahead of Leicester City’s visit to M16 for Friday’s FA Cup fourth-round clash.

Keys has suggested that Amorim’s decisions and results imply that he could already be eyeing a swift exit from what continues to look like an impossible job.

“There’s not much to say about United this week. Poor again, wasn’t it? But it always is when they have to take a game to the opposition,” Keys wrote in his .

“If they’re sitting in a low block and stopping the opposition from playing, they’re okay. If they have to take a game to teams, they struggle, which is why they’ve now lost seven home games.

“As for playing Mainoo as a false nine? And you’ve got Hojlund and Zirkzee available. What are you actually saying to those players with a decision like that?

“I’m afraid Amorim looks totally out of his depth. I wanted it to work, but it isn’t. He’s going to have to change and learn fast if he wants to stay in the job. I’m still not convinced he doesn’t want out already.”

Amorim would have expected to inherit a tall task at United but will surely have been struck by how challenging his early phase has proven.

After the Leicester clash, his side face daunting back-to-back away league games against and David Moyes’ rejuvenated Everton team.

However, the prospect of Amorim performing a U-turn and tweaking his early philosophy remains unlikely.
