Mick Schumacher responds to Helmut Marko after being told ‘F1 career is over’

refuses to give up on his dream of returning to F1 despite being told by chief that his career is over after missing out on a seat with in 2025.

Schumacher spent two years with Haas in 2021 and 2022 after graduating from Formula Two as the champion in 2020. However, despite showing glimpses of his immense potential, the German racer’s stint with the American squad was underwhelming, and his deal was not renewed for 2023.

Since then, Schumacher has been chasing a return to the grid but has been overlooked for a number of seats. Williams opted against signing him for 2024, and when was dropped mid-season, they instead turned to Franco Colapinto, despite ’s best efforts to convince James Vowles to bring in his reserve driver.

Sauber and Alpine also overlooked the 25-year-old, who spent the campaign with the latter’s World Endurance Championship squad, impressing with his performances.

However, despite the links, boss Marko believes that Schumacher’s hopes are over. “I think if Schumacher doesn’t get this seat then Formula One history is over for him,” he told sport.de.

“He should then concentrate on the long-distance races, where he was very successful, and do that. If he stays in motorsport, then he has to find something that he enjoys, but where he also has a chance of winning.”

Schumacher, however, is unwilling to give up on his dream for good. “Formula One has always been my dream and will always be my dream. But the WEC is the number one priority,” he told Sky Germany. “That requires 100 per cent dedication.”

He went on to add: “My dream is a dream, but when I’m in the car, I’m 100 per cent in the car. The dream lives on in the moments when I have free time and can think about it.”

If Schumacher has plans to return to the grid in 2026, then his best chance lies with the new Cadillac team, although he will need to fight off stiff competition from a number of experienced heads for a seat.

The American team are expected to hire IndyCar sensation Colton Herta to fulfil a desire for a homegrown star, with an experienced head alongside him. With 43 Grand Prix starts under his belt, the 25-year-old fits the bill, but Valtteri Bottas, and will also be compelling options.
