shortage of attacking options has left academy sensation Chido Obi Martin’s name on the lips of masses of supporters. However, is reportedly planning to oversee one of his team-mate’s breakthroughs in his senior squad this year.
Obi Martin hasn’t slowed his scoring rate since switching from in the summer, netting 12 times in as many games for the Under-18s and Under-21s this season.
The 17-year-old hasn’t been the most prolific goalscorer in United’s youth ranks, though. That honour belongs to Gabriele Biancheri, who continues to make headlines on the fields of Carrington.
Biancheri joined the Red Devils from Cardiff City in February 2023 and has flaunted bags of potential during his early rise through the ranks.
This season, the 18-year-old striker scored 21 goals in 22 games for the U18 and U21 sides before undergoing surgery on a broken hand at the start of 2025.
His return is considered imminent, and he is said to be knocking on the door of first-team football if his development continues on its current trajectory.
According to , Biancheri has huge admirers at United, and he is expected to spend pre-season with Amorim’s senior players, potentially joining the squad on tour.
Yet, there is thought to be a chance that the Wales Under-19 international will break through before the end of the season amid an attacking shortage.

And United made their commitment to Biancheri simultaneously clear by immediately rejecting an approach from Serie A club Como.
Obi Martin’s high-profile move from , where his relentless goalscoring exploits thrust him into the spotlight before United’s interest, has made him a popular candidate for a call-up.
However, Biancheri is arguably the standout talent in the club’s current academy set-up and could soon be the next in line to break through.
For now, Amorim will hope that £108.5million striker duo and Joshua Zirkzee will start firing to boost United’s toothless goalscoring record.
Hojlund and Zirkzee have managed just five goals this season combined. Only Everton and the bottom three have scored fewer than United this term.
Rashford’s exit sparked suggestions that another teenager can burst onto the scene as he did in 2016 when Louis van Gaal took a chance due to an injury crisis.
And while Obi Martin is in the frame, it is Biancheri who appears to be at the front of the queue.
