Kate Cassidy was ‘image conscious’ and ‘scared’ in interview after Liam Payne’s death

Tragedy struck in October last year when 31-year-old met his untimely end after a fall from a Buenos Aires hotel balcony.

His girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, has kept out of the public eye since. Breaking her silence in a telling interview with The Sun, she opened her heart to Clemmie Moodie about her final moments with Liam and explained her departure from Argentina before his tragic death.

During the emotional exchange, Clemmie admitted to and “She was shy, she was very image conscious, which I think is normal for someone who is 25 years old and has grown up on camera.

“That generation, that is their life. I got the impression that she was lovely, she was very sweet, she was very nervous. She didn’t want to upset anyone or offend anyone. But, at the same time, she was so scared to get something wrong, and that was sad to see.”

Clemmie spoke of the devastating impact grief has on individuals, and how it had particularly affected Kate, who lost her significant other so early in life. She confided in Ben and Cat that conducting the interview was no easy task, reports

Revealing what prompted Kate to finally speak out, Clemmie said they reached out to her back in December. She commented: “For me, I think she wanted to pay tribute to Liam, to share and revel in their love and their joy and their love story.”

Fighting against falsehoods circulating since Liam’s death, she clarified misinformation, prompting the ITV hosts to inquire whether Kate harboured any regrets about leaving and how she’s coping with the ordeal.

The journalist disclosed that posing the toughest question to Kate was a poignant moment. Ben shared with viewers that Liam and Kate were in Argentina together before she returned to the US, just four days prior to his death.

Clemmie reflected on Kate’s words, adding: “She said, ‘We were in such a great place, we were really happy; I had no indication that his mental health was wobbling.'”

Clemmie clarified that Kate’s departure from Argentina was due to the need to care for their dog, not because of any dispute between them.

As Ben delved into the couple’s shared aspirations, he recounted how Kate became emotional when detailing how Liam would never come back to the home they had made together.

Clemmie recounted to Ben and Cat the moment Kate’s emotions surfaced. She observed: “Little things she said off the cuff, those were real moments of reflection and sincerity. That was really heartbreaking. She had her life mapped out.

“She met him when she had just graduated from college in America, so she hadn’t really started looking for work. She thought she was going to be a full-time influencer, travelling the world with her boyfriend and husband. They were going to have kids, and at 25, that’s all gone. It must be terrifying.”

When Cat inquired about the instances that stirred Kate’s deepest emotions, Clemmie disclosed it was the mention of their dog, memories of their cherished holiday in Lapland, and times when she let her guard down.

This Morning continues weekdays on ITV from 10am.
