Outraged viewers of The Chase couldn’t hold back their exasperation, with one fan exclaiming, “I’m losing the will to live”, as a contestant made what they considered to be an “outrageous” move.
In Thursday’s (February 6) episode of the popular ITV quiz show, teammates William, Vonny, Lauren, and Alex joined forces to try and win a substantial cash sum by outsmarting a top quiz genius of Britain.
The stakes were heightened after William found himself out of the game after just three questions, courtesy of Anne Hegerty.
It was then up to 51-year-old leadership development administrator Vonny to face the formidable chaser.
After securing a solid £9,000 during her solo round, viewers expected the player to aim high, but were left bewildered as Vonny opted for a mere £3,000 offer.

Explaining her strategy to Bradley Walsh, Vonny said: “Well, the £60,000 is a really nice offer – really tempting. The £9,000, I could probably do that, but I’m going to go for the £3,000 to try and get back,” reports .
Bradley expressed support, responding, “Good for you,” and even Anne confessed she had anticipated this, saying, “I predicted backstage she was going low.”
Vonny’s decision did not sit well with fervent fans of the show, who were still seething from a similar incident in Wednesday’s episode where another player also snatched the lower figure. Dissatisfaction ran rampant on X (former Twitter), as disgruntled viewers vented: “No!!!!! £3,000 low offer taken after a £9,000 cash builder! What is happening here?”
Another bemoaned the repetitive pattern: “Low offer from a 9? I need to find something else to do at 5pm on a weekday,” while a third lamented: “Oh, for crying out loud. £9k and you go low. I’m losing the will to live with this show.”

A fourth fan was incensed, venting: “You give us a £9000 cash builder… and you decide to go for an offer that’s only one third of it?! OUTRAGEOUS!!!”
As the trend of contestants opting for lower offers grows, one viewer called for a revamp: “Ok, they really need to look at refreshing this show now. A £9k cash builder going low?? I think every single low offer now should be a minus, even if the team has nothing.”
Despite the uproar, Vonny’s risky move ultimately saw her scrape through, with the chaser hot on her heels, just one question away.
“Had she taken any other offer, she wouldn’t have got through,” Anne Hegerty conceded afterwards.
