GB News presenter Ellie Costello publicly apologised to her co-star Paul Coyte after she laughed at him after he said ‘the place was rocking.’

The 31-year-old breakfast host asked for forgiveness and said: “I’d like to start with an apology, Paul,” to which he replied: “I’d like it written, please!”

She added: “I laughed at you when you said, ‘The place was rocking,’ I thought it sounded quite dad-like. But Ben [Leo] told me this is a well-known football phrase, and the stadium is often rocking. I’m sorry. I apologise. It’s my ignorance of football terms.”

Ben chimed in, “Do you forgive her?” Paul scratched his chin and raised his eyebrows, prompting Ellie to say, “Oh, he’s not sure—I’m getting the silent treatment!”

Paul sighed heavily and said, “I think so,” to which Ellie replied, “Oh, good.” I’m glad everything is okay now.”

Hosts Ellie and Ben were also discussing whether British soaps were ‘on the rocks’ and spoke to legend Charlie Lawson, who played Jim McDonald in the long-running ITV show.

It comes after ITV slashes its soap scheduling, with ” and ‘s weekly output to be cut.

The channel has confirmed that from January 2026, ” and ” will move to a new scheduling pattern on ITV1, which includes a “soaps power hour” from Monday to Friday.

Effectively, both soaps would be losing an episode a week under the new scheduling. ” will air 30-minute episodes at 8pm, and ” will air half an hour eps at 8.30pm.

ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment Kevin Lygo said: “The new commissioning pattern is viewer-led. We already give more choice than ever to viewers on how they watch us through ITVX and we want to present their favourite soap to them, in the most digestible way.

“In a world where there is so much competition for viewers’ time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows.”
