Escape to the Country buyer fights back tears over property price ‘you’re joking me’

During the latest instalment of BBC’s Escape to the Country, there was an outpouring of emotion as one buyer confessed he was “going to cry” upon discovering the price tag of a dream property.

Presenter Steve Brown guided Issac, Esme, and their children, Noah and Beulah, through various potential homes as they sought a quieter life in Hampshire, leaving behind the bustling town of Chertsey, Surrey.

The family, adapting to remote work and home education, required a four-bedroom home within their £800,000 budget, mirroring the spacious layout of their current bungalow, complete with a child-proof garden, a semi-rural locale, and proximity to the seaside.

Steve set up a number of potential homes, but it didn’t take long for one particular home to capture their hearts. The offering of a modernised detached house boasting an open floor plan suitable for schooling, four bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a manageable garden sat conveniently close to the coast.

But the real triumph came when Steve disclosed the property’s asking price: a mere £730,000, well under the family budget. The revelation struck a chord with Issac, who exclaimed, “You’re joking me. Oh wow, I think I’m going to start crying,” .

Esme quipped: “You didn’t even cry on our wedding day. Now look at you.” prompting laughter as Steve admitted: “Yeah, but this is good news.”

The couple were still shocked when Esme turned to her husband and questioned, “I can’t believe that price. Can you?” To which Isaac responded in disbelief, “No, No.”

Esme expressed her excitement: “It really makes it real for me that we can actually live here.”

Isaac chimed in with his sense of wonder: “I feel like I’m in a dream.”

Despite being enamoured with the property, the pair had their eyes on another home in the vicinity; however, they have not yet made an offer as they are awaiting the sale of their current abode in Surrey.
