EastEnders stars to swap soap for huge BBC show ahead of 40th anniversary episode

Some of EastEnders’s biggest stars are set to appear on a major game show as part of the soap’s much anticipated 40th anniversary celebrations.

On Saturday, February 15, four Walford personalities will put their knowledge to the test in a special Albert Square-themed episode of Celebrity Bridge of Lies.

The star-studded team features ’ longest-serving actor, , who has played Ian Beale since the show’s inception.

Joining him on the bridge is Michelle Collins, who recently reprised her role as Cindy Beale, Ian’s ex-wife. Micah Balfour (Junior Knight) and Molly Rainford (Anna Knight) will make up the rest of their team.

Each of these characters is currently wrapped up in the explosive ‘Who Attacked Cindy?’ storyline, which is set to reach its dramatic conclusion during the soap’s anniversary week.

However, there will be no bitter rivalries in the Celebrity Bridge of Lies studio, as the foursome are joining forces in an attempt to beat the bridge and raise money for their chosen charities.

The show will be hosted by another legend, – who is making his grand return to the soap as Grant Mitchell for the anniversary.

This special Bridge of Lies episode will feature rounds packed with themed questions. Ross will also be presenting a special documentary called : 40 Years on The Square ahead of the soap’s live anniversary special.

Celebrity Bridge of Lies will air on One and iPlayer at 7.50 pm on Saturday, February 15.

Meanwhile, bosses previously announced that producers have prepared a special live episode for fans to commemorate the soap’s 40th anniversary.

Audience members will also be given the opportunity to make a decision about a major plotline on the spot.

Depending on which way viewers vote, a romance between two characters will either take off or crash and burn.

executive producer Chris Clenshaw broke the news, sharing: “The 40th anniversary is a milestone event for , and we have been planning this week for a long time to ensure that it’s a week full of drama and surprises.

“In fact, as our regular audience will know, we have already seen the return of familiar faces and have many more nods to our history to come which will all build up to our momentous anniversary week.

“This time, as well as going live, we are adding an extra twist and for the very first time in the history of the show and as a gift to the viewers, we are giving the audience the power to have their say in choosing the outcome of one of our storylines.”

Balvinder Sopal has that the live episode will be “high stakes”, adding: “We can promise it’s going to be exciting and lots of drama, emotional drama.”
