BBC host banned from dating app Hinge after 300 women accuse him of ‘catfishing’

TV host has hilariously found himself booted off the dating app , for a very unusual reason. When starting his search for love, the presenter ran into a problem as users were convinced he was a catfish impersonator.

The 46 year old charmer, beloved by TV audiences since his days as a Blue Peter presenter, has graced our televisions presenting The One Show, This Morning and waltzing across the floor, not to mention his culinary skills on Celebrity .

His most recent endeavour sees him brightening mornings as a presenter on ‘s Morning Live. Despite his glittering career, love has eluded Gethin, prompting him to seek romance on Hinge.

However, the path to true love never did run smooth. In an ironic twist of fate, Gethin’s authentic profile was reported and subsequently banned amid allegations of catfishing.

Recounting the bizarre saga on the Restless Natives podcast, Gethin said: “A couple of weeks ago I was kicked off Hinge twice in eight hours for violating the Code of Conduct. Three hundred women had reported me for catfishing.”

He lamented: “It was that moment when you have to write to Hinge, on a Thursday night, all alone, ‘Dear Hinge, it’s Gethin here, 46, I just want to get my money back because it’s not really working for me’, eating some cereal because there’s nothing in the fridge. That’s when I’m like, ‘What am I doing with my life.”

Gethin Jones, the Welsh heartthrob, famously dated national treasure Katherine Jenkins, 44, back in 2007.

The sparks flew between them after they met on the set of , where he was strutting his stuff and she serenaded the audience as a guest star.

Their whirlwind romance led to an engagement in February 2011, but by the end of the same year, their love story had unravelled, leaving Gethin to nurse a broken heart. He has since described the agony of their split as “awful”.

In a candid 2023 interview, Gethin opened up about the emotional turmoil he faced: “I was engaged and then breaking up, afterwards, or even during that period, it was just awful.

“I remember doing Radio 5Live and going into the toilet at 5.30am going, ‘All right. Come on. Just focus for the next three hours, and then you can go back to being sad again.’ I definitely had a bad bout of depression during that time.”

Despite the pain, Gethin took a stand on maintaining his privacy, expressing pride in his silence: “There was something inside of me at the time, that said the only things that matter really now are dignity and integrity, which no one gives you credit for…it’s the hardest thing to do at the time and probably what I’m most proud of now. I’ve never talked about it.”
