Every year, chocolate fans across the world come together on February 5 to celebrate an important national day – World Day. And what better place to celebrate than in the Italian town where it was first created?

Alba is a small town in northern which is the birthplace of Nutella and Ferrero Rocher. It’s located in the Piedmont region of the country, which is renowned for its chocolate, especially the iconic gianduja, a creamy mixture of chocolate and hazelnuts.

Karissa is one of the many that have visited Alba to taste as many of products as possible containing their local delicacy.

She showed off her visit to the town saying: “It’s this little town in northern Italy with a massive Ferrero factory that pumps out so much Nutella, the whole town smells like chocolate. Apparentely Nutella tastes different here too.”

She went on to show off the unique Nutella products available in the stores, including different sized jars, cakes, and ice cream, as well as the local bakeries that sells a variety of homemade Nutella treats.

“All the bakeries have like Nutella cookies and Nutella cakes,” Karissa said. However, there was one product she was the most excited about trying.

“I went to four different stores and finally found Nutella ice cream, which has this thick layer of Nutella on top, and then ribbons of cold, crunchy, thick Nutella throughout. But the ice cream itself is almost like a mousse. It’s so light and fluffy and so creamy.”

She gave it a high score of nine out of ten, before moving on to trying the Kinder delice desserts she’d also found at the store. Due to them being a bit dry, she scored them a seven out of ten, before trying the main reason why she was there.

“I was curious if Nutella actually tastes different here, and I think it does. It’s a lot nuttier and thicker and definitely less sweet,” she said.

“They also have a plant based Nutella, which is definitely a bit thinner and not quite as rich as the original, but hey, it’s still delicious. Like, my dad can’t have dairy so he was so excited.

Moving on to another sweet treat, she said: “These Kinder Cards are kind of like thin crispy waffles with a super sugary white chocolate and they’re so satisfyingly crunchy.”

She also tried a Tronky, which is also made by Ferrero. She described them to be a crispy wafer that’s filled with a crunchy hazelnut cream, which she urged people to dip in Nutella to make even better.

Karissa also praised the local bakeries after trying two different Nutella cookies. “The hazelnut spread here is so much nuttier and more flavorful than the US. It like smacks you in the face with hazelnut flavour.”

Taking to the comments, one user said: ” I’m from Alba and i can’t explain to you the chocolate smell in the morning when i leave for school, it’s insane.” A second user added: “I thought ferrero (that mainly makes kinder) originated from germany.”

However, others were shocked that the popular Nutella and Kinder products weren’t available in the US, with one person saying: “Wait, yall don’t have thoses things in the US? I can buy all of these in the store next door.”
