has revealed a casting director once turned him down for a role because of his acne scars.
The beloved actor recounted the early days of his career when he was eager to grab any job opportunity. He had sent out headshots to various casting directors, including one who specialised in television commercials.
He revealed that securing an appointment with this particular individual was significant at the time, during an appearance on the Making A Scene podcast with comedy icons Matt Lucas and David Walliams.
Rob spoke on the disheartening experience and shared: “When you take a photo front on with front lights, it blanks you out. You look quite appealing.
“So I go in to see that guy and he looks at the photos then he looks at me and sees my acne scars and he says, ‘Oh, that didn’t really come across in the picture.'”

Recalling the casting director’s blunt dismissal, Rob continued: “And he literally said to me, ‘I can hardly send you in for a chocolate commercial. Eat our chocolate and you’ll look like me’. Can you imagine that?
“I can’t remember how I reacted, I probably went, ‘Fair enough’ and ‘Right, well thanks for seeing me’.
“Can you imagine walking out the office, walking down the stairs and back down Great Marlborough Street (where the office was)? Can you imagine standing there and going, ‘Right,'” reports .
During their first collaboration in 15 years, launching a new podcast together, Rob opened up about being regularly confused for other celebrities during a chat with David Walliams.

He admitted that fans often mistake him for judge Anton Du Beke, 58, and sometimes for comedian Ben Miller, 58.
David was quick to comment on the mix-ups during their conversation, querying, “How many times have you been mistaken for Anton Du Beke?” To which Rob replied: “A lot. And he for me. And Ben Miller a lot.”
Walliams admitted he could understand why people see a likeness with Anton but was sceptical about the Ben comparison, noting: “I see Ben a bit, but Ben looks a lot younger,” he chuckled. Yet, on the similarity to Anton, David teased: “But Anton and you are similar sort of age, aren’t you?”
Reacting in mock offence, Rob turned from Walliams, exclaiming: “Incredible. Do you know I was in a car for an hour and a quarter to get here and that’s what I get.”
