Bowen Island-Horseshoe Bay ferry service cancelled through Wednesday

B.C. Ferries says crews are working on a mechanical problem with the Snug Cove berth

A mechanical problem at Bowen Island’s Snug Cove ferry berth has forced B.C. Ferries to cancel all sailings on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A spokesperson said the weather overnight caused the floating dock to shift out of position, making it unsafe to use the ramp. B.C. Ferries’ Sonia Lowe said it is unrelated to an incident at the dock on Sunday.

While crews work to assess the dock and make repairs, the ferry service is bringing in two 12-passenger water taxis to shuttle passengers to and from Bowen.

Based on feedback from Bowen Islanders, B.C. Ferries also secured two 38-passenger water taxis that will be in service until 6 p.m. Tuesday and again from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday leaving Snug Cove, then from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. departing Horseshoe Bay. They will also shuttle as needed.

Students will be given priority for the 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. taxi trips, said Lowe.

At Horseshoe Bay, the water taxis will leave from the government dock. Customers will be directed to them when they arrive at the B.C. Ferries foot passenger booths.

The ferry corporation is also providing free parking to Bowen Island residents at Horseshoe Bay while the Snug Cove dock is out of service. Parking passes are available, with proof of address, at the customer service desk between 7:45 a.m. and 9:45 p.m. daily.
