Pennsylvania State Police are hoping to crack an eggciting case: Who eggsactly stole 100,000 eggs off a trailer in Greencastle.
The massive egg theft happened Saturday evening at Pete & Jerry’s Organics, a large egg producer in the state. Somehow, thieves managed to steal the eggs off the back of a distribution trailer.
The value of the stolen eggs came to about $40,000, authorities said.
Pete & Jerry’s Organics released a statement about the egg theft and said they “are actively working with local law enforcement to investigate.” The company declined to comment further, but assured customers, “We take this matter seriously.”
The egg theft comes amid a shortage of eggs across the United States due to an outbreak of bird flu, aka avian influenza.
