Luke Francis, the head postmaster at Bude’s Post Office in Cornwall, embarked on a special journey to Florida to present a 100th birthday letter to Emlyn Makofsky.

Emlyn Colwill was born a century ago at Lewdon Farm in Kilkhampton on January 19, 1925. She pursued a career in nursing across North Cornwall before relocating to the United States where she met her husband, Mr Makofsky.

Upon receiving the Royal correspondence for delivery, Luke secretly set off to Florida, eager to personally deliver Aunty Emlyn’s card.

Upon his arrival, Luke, accompanied by his family, delighted Emlyn with the letter from His Majesty King Charles III, extending congratulations on her centennial milestone.
