Amy Dowden has shared a statement on World Cancer Day
has urged her fans to ‘check themselves’ on World Cancer Day, as she uploaded a series of candid snaps during her emotional battle with breast cancer.
The Welsh dancer, who is currently on Strictly Live! arena tour, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May 2023. This forced her to pull out of that year.
She penned to her followers: “WORLD CANCER DAY. supporting those living with cancer, those supporting their loved one’s affected by cancer, admiring the survivors, honoring those we have lost, and never, ever GIVING UP.
“Please check yourself, and if you notice any changes in your body or how you feel, please book an appointment with your GP!Forever grateful to the Drs, nurses, paramedics, NHS, researchers, volunteers, charities and to all those individuals who have helped and supported me!
“Since those words in 2023, sorry Amy it’s cancer, my life will never be the same. But I’m So grateful to those above who saved me, made me stronger and even more determined! Welsh love to all those affected by cancer especially those finding today tough! #mycancerjourney.” [sic]

Many of her fans have flooded the comments section with warm messages of support. One person typed: “You are the most incredible woman! Forever in awe of you, love watching you back doing what you love.”
A second person commented: “You are such a inspiration and have shown amazing strength, I’ve had several friends that have been through cancer and my sister has just had removal of lump last week so just a waiting game now.”
A third also said: “Your story will always save many lives, you are a fighter, and an amazing human being all around. we have so much love for you. and im extremely glad your back doing what you love.”

Amy returned to Strictly Come Dancing last year
Amy’s cancer is currently in remission but she regularly continues to have check-ups. She returned to Strictly last year, where she was paired with JLS band member .
However, during the middle of the dance competition, she suffered a foot injury and was forced to withdraw from the show.
A ” spokesperson said at the time: “Sadly, Amy Dowden will not be partaking in the rest of the competition this year.”
In August 2024, she filmed a candid documentary that followed her journey, called Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me. The programme highlighted the importance of early cancer diagnosis.
