On Tuesday (February 4), the 54-year-old TV star told fans he was revealed he needed to seek medical assistance after experiencing the “worst pain” he had ever been in.
After seeking medical treatment, he was told by doctors he had kidney stones which meant that he had to have emergency surgery to remove them immediately.
Thankfully, the operation went smoothly but the former star was given some stern advice from doctors after his recent ordeal.
During the latest instalment of his – which he hosts with Marina Hyde – the broadcaster was told that he had to make sure he drank more water, or he could get another kidney stone in the future.

He told the outlet: “That I can do, no major lifestyle changes, just drink more water.” It comes after the House of Games presenter admitted that he’d had “quite the week” after he “woke up in pain”.
The dad-of-three told listeners: “I’ve had quite the week of it. I woke up the other night in pain and I had a kidney stone. It is the single most painful thing that has ever happened to me.
“The doctors kept saying it’s more painful than childbirth but I’m not sure I can but that. It was unbelievably painful but thank you to everyone at Charing Cross Hospital who were so great.
“I was having liquid morphine and it didn’t touch the sides. Then I had an operation and they took it out. So, I have the absolute joy of not being in pain.”
Richard is best known for being the host of Pointless, a programme which he originally created. In 2022, he left the show but has remained a popular face on the small screen.
When he first started out in his career, he was known for his work behind-the-scenes, and has worked as a producer on Deal Or No Deal, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and 10 O’Clock Live.
Richard often guest presents The One Show and has appeared multiple times on both Have I Got News For You? and Would I Lie To You? as well as his own daytime quiz show House Of Games.
