A reporter on Monday asked Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce if he’ll propose to girlfriend Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl ― but made the possibility way too absurd. Check out the video here.
“Are the rumors true? Are you proposing to Taylor at the half?” the journalist could be heard asking at a news conference in a clip shared by Access Hollywood.
Before we get to Kelce’s answer, let’s break down the scenario:
Why halftime, for god’s sake?
Kelce will be playing in the most important game of his life as the Chiefs try to become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls. An intermission of 25 to 30 minutes for the big game should give him enough time to rest a bit, hydrate, discuss strategy and maybe get retaped. And that will be going on while Kendrick Lamar performs the halftime show.
It would be hard to imagine Kelce excusing himself from the locker room to pop the question.
But the 10-time Pro Bowl pick was a good sport and answered the reporter thusly: “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
On the other hand, would a halftime proposal be any wilder than a right-wing conspiracy theory circulating before last year’s Super Bowl ― that Kelce would join his superstar singer girlfriend on the field at halftime to endorse then-President (and candidate) Joe Biden?
A private Kelce proposal to Swift after the game ― preferably a victory ― seems kinda sorta within the realm of possibility. But as far as we’re concerned, halftime is for bathroom breaks and reheating chicken wings ― not mega-celebrity engagements in which one of the participants is playing in the game.
