Lucy Letby is currently serving 15 whole-life orders
A major update in case has seen her lawyers and an independent panel of experts release “significant new medical evidence” as they demand a case review.
In London this morning, that the deaths of seven babies resulted from natural causes or “bad” medical care.
Letby is currently serving 15 whole-life orders for killing seven babies and attempting to kill seven more while working as a nurse on a neonatal unit between June 2015 and June 2016.
During the press conference today, Dr Shoo Lee concluded: “In summary then, ladies and gentlemen, we did not find murders. In all cases, death or injury were due to natural causes or just bad medical care.”

“There was no medical evidence to support malfeasance causing death or injury in any of the 17 cases in the trial,” Dr Lee claimed.
Instead, he presented other causes for the deaths. This includes infection killing Baby Seven, traumatic delivery ending the life of Baby 15 and chronic lung disease complicated by antibiotic-resistant bacteria leading to the death of Baby Nine.
The new findings contradict the prosecution’s argument of Letby attacking the infants, including injecting air into their bloodstream.
Dr Lee said: “The notion that these cases are air embolisms because [the babies] collapse and because there were skin rashes has no basis in evidence. Let’s be clear about that.”

The convicted killer’s lawyers have now announced her case has been sent to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC).
A CCRC spokesperson said: “We have received a preliminary application in relation to Ms Letby’s case, and work has begun to assess the application. We anticipate further submissions being made to us.
“It is not for the CCRC to determine innocence or guilt in a case, that’s a matter for the courts.”
They added that their role is to “find, investigate and if appropriate, refer potential miscarriages of justice to the appellate courts”.
