Mathys Tel could leave chiefs red in the face – because his debut is expected to come against the Red Devils themselves a week on Sunday.
United after Bayern Munich quoted them a £5million loan fee for the 19-year-old, who has not scored a goal yet this season.
INEOS deemed that to be an expensive risk in spite of the fact United and Antony to Real Betis without signing any replacements.
Tel instead agreed to join with the France under-21 international arriving in England on a six-month loan. Spurs have secured the option to make the move permanent in the summer for £45.7m and have already agreed terms for a six-year contract.
The Frenchman was thought to have rejected Spurs earlier in the window but changed his mind after struggling for minutes under Vincent Kompany at the Allianz Arena.

He scored 10 times in 41 appearances last season under Thomas Tuchel but has played on 14 occasions without finding the back of the net this term.
The north Londoners will hope he scores more freely for them to help arrest their recent slide. And given United essentially rejected the teenager attacker, he could make them look silly on February 16 when the two teams face off.
Spurs host United at the Stadium in a 4.30pm kick-off and the match will offer Tel the opportunity to make his debut in England’s top flight. He would love to endear himself to his new club with a decisive goal.

With Antony and Rashford joining Jadon Sancho () in being away on loan, United have only four out-and-out forwards for the rest of the campaign – , Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho.
Hojlund and Zirkzee have 11 goals between them this season but neither centre-forward has scored since December 19. Garnacho has also yet to find the net since November.
Amorim will be desperate to unlock his United attack given they have only scored a mere 28 goals in 24 games this season. The Portuguese coach has overseen 29 goals in his 19 matches in charge across the league, Europa League and FA Cup.
But after Saturday’s defeat to Crystal Palace the Red Devils have lost five of their last seven matches across all competitions at Old Trafford, failing to score in three of those games.
