Jon Stewart thinks a certain Democratic leader is lacking so much in the rizz department that he’s doing his party a disservice.
On Monday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” Stewart was unpacking President Donald Trump’s unhinged tariff threats against Canada and Mexico.
“[Trump’s] trade war has awoken a sleeping giant. Not Canada, not Mexico, but the Democratic minority Senate leader. Release the Schumer!” Stewart said, sarcastically referring to Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).
Stewart then played a clip of the politician at a press conference Sunday, in which Schumer held a can of Corona beer and an avocado, and attempted to explain to the American people how the potential tariffs will impact their wallets.
“It’s going to affect beer, OK? Most of it — Corona here — comes from Mexico. It’s going to affect your guac. Because what is guacamole made of? Avocados,” Schumer said while holding his props.
After the clip played, Stewart appeared perplexed.
“Your response to the trade war is to fucking tell us guacamole is made of avocados?” Stewart exclaimed.
The “Daily Show” host was so annoyed by this clapback at Trump that he decided to pause the show and do an aside in which he blasted Schumer’s ability to effectively combat Republicans’ agenda.
“Democrats, can you please stop fucking trotting Schumer out there every time Trump traverses into the unreal? He’s not good at this. What is the decision-making process here?” he said.
Imagining a meeting among Democratic operatives, Stewart continued, “‘Hey, who should we get out there to effectively battle one of the most savvy presidential media manipulators in history? Oh, I don’t know, how about Schumer? He’s uninteresting, but at least he’s monotone. Oh wait, and Chuck, before you go out there, you look too young! Put on these readers and lower them on your nose. Perfect!’”

Stewart then concluded, “Honestly, listening to Chuck Schumer speak on almost any topic makes me want to bomb Canada.”
On Monday, Trump paused the threat of 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico for one month. So, rest easy, America. Taco Tuesdays will effectively remain an affordable weekday treat — for now, at least.
