Jenna Bush Hager is getting candid about her bedtime routine with her three kids, Mila, 11, Poppy, 9, and Hal, 5.
On the Feb. 4 episode of TODAY With Jenna & Friends, Jenna told her guest co-host Ego Nwodim that she has secret mantras that she tells her kids before bed.
“I do a little thing with my kids where I’ve given each of them a mantra that I whisper to them before bed,” she said.
Nwodim, who was curious to know what they were, asked Jenna if she could share them on the show. However, Jenna said that she couldn’t because it wouldn’t be a secret anymore. But after giving it some thought, the TODAY co-anchor decided to tell one of the old mantras that she used to tell Poppy.
“For Poppy, it is, ‘You were loved. You were loved. You were loved, they all say.’ And I thought I made it up, but then I realized I got it from a book,” Jenna laughed. “But, I try to just infuse goodness right before bed.”
“That’s so sweet!” Nwodim replied. “That’s great. Affirmations are so important and powerful, and I feel like we can sometimes think they’re corny, but I’m like, I think we need to hear those things and be reminded of those things.”
Jenna, who loved Nwodim’s thoughts on affirmations, said they should start writing down “the beautiful things that even strangers say to us.”
Nwodim recalled a lovely interaction that she once had with a stranger.
“One time a stranger in a coffee shop asked me with intense eye contact, ‘How is your day going?’ And I was like … this was such a nice interaction. So yes, let’s try to remember the positive things.”
Jenna agreed and also recalled a memorable moment that she had with a stranger.
