ITV’s Loose Women slammed for ‘irresponsible man-hating’ comments

One panellist caused outrage with fans today (February 4). was branded as “irresponsible” and a “man-hater” as she shared her account of having a mammogram. 

Chair of the show, , explained that a new artificial intelligence technology has been designed to help with diagnosing breast cancer. Janet was delighted with her news as she went on to bash mammograms while sharing her experiences of having one. 

She said: “It’s about time. I think mammograms were designed by men, sadistic men, because any woman that’s got a small chest – you are going to be squashed in that machine and it is going to be excrutiating and that is assuming that you’re tall enough to actually reach the machine. 

“It is not very flexible and so many scans now result in secondary opinion. And you have to have an ultrasound scan, because they can’t read them.”

Janet’s comments angered fans as they fled to social media to complain. Posting to X/Twitter, one viewer wrote: “#loosewomen Does Street-Porter not like men? Can you imagine a man saying something similar about women? Of course you can’t – that would be declared as misogyny! But it okay for a woman to be derogatory about men!”

Another added: “Now, if a man had just told Janets story, there would have been a boooo rather than a woooo! #loosewomen,” while a third complained: “Fgs Janet, a mammogram isn’t ‘excruciating’, choose your words better, so irresponsible…#loosewomen.”

One more shared: “So it was a man that designed the mammogram machine but Janets annoyed he didn’t make it painless, what a bloody stupid thing to say.

“And by the way it isn’t excruciating, another irresponsible comment that might put women off of having a mammogram, shut up Janet.”

However, others applauded the show for covering such a serious topic which followed after Coleen Nolan returned to the ITV show after her sister’s cancer battle. 

One fan wrote: “Well done to Colleen for coming back so soon, it’s such a sad time for her x #LooseWomen.” Another echoed: ” Can I just say that’s me sobbing, so proud of you, @NolanColeen.

“You’re so fabulous and I love you so much, sending loads of love and hugs to you.”
