The Chase quizzer Mark Labbett issued an apology
returned on Tuesday night as welcomed four new contestants onto the show, including communications consultant Stuart, 54, from Ormskirk; nurse Bev, 61, from Leicester; Megan, 23, a fundraising coordinator from Bista, and Adam, 31, a theatre writer from Nottingham.
The contestants got off to a good start, with both Stuart and Bev securing £12,000 in the prize fund. However, the third contestant, Megan, failed to make it to the final.
This left fourth player Adam in the hot seat, and much to his teammates’ delight, he brought back £4,000 to the prize pot.
However, things took a dramatic turn during the final. The trio only managed to answer 14 questions correctly as they faced Mark Labbett, otherwise known as The Beast.
Viewers all issued a similar complaint as they suggested Adam and Bev didn’t contribute enough when answering questions in the final Chase.
One X user fumed: “Adam and Bev just gave up.”
Another agreed: “11 questions right between 3, shocking #TheChase,” while a third mused: “Hello, earth to Bev? #TheChase.”
A fourth queried: “Did Bev fall asleep #TheChase,” while another said: “Should have just let Stuart answer #TheChase.”
The contestants only managed to secure 14 correct answers which proved detrimental for the trio.
Bradley commented: “14 has been a winning score before believe it or not.”
But it wasn’t meant to be after Mark caught the Chasers with 51 seconds remaining and zero pushbacks.
“You know it’s not your day when I throw out the Simon and Garfunkel answer and it’s right,” Mark commented, before adding: “I’m sorry.”
Viewers shared their disappointment following the show contestants loss, as one tweeted: “14 and caught #TheChase,” while another mused: “Shame #TheChase.”
The Chase airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX at 5pm
