Grantchester’s Robson Green defended by co-star after ‘high maintenance’ remark

Grantchester’s Kacey Ainsworth was quick to defend her co-star Robson Green after he was branded ‘high maintenance’. The ITV hit show has made a triumphant return to TV screens for its ninth season, taking viewers back to the quaint Cambridgeshire village.

Just minutes into the new series, viewers witnessed the departure of the much-loved character Will Davenport, played by Tom Brittany as Rishi Nair also joined the cast as new charismatic vicar Alphy Kotteram.

During Tuesday’s (January 4) episode of The One show, actress Kacey, who plays Cathy Keating, revealed the advice Rishi was given before working with fellow co-star Robson Green, who plays Detective Inspector Geordie Keating.

Host Lauren Laverne went on to say: “The character I’m going to ask about. You’ve had James Norton andTom Brittany previously playing the reverend but there is a new rev in town, Rish Nair and apparently he was given some great advice about working with Robson Green.”

Kacey admitted: “Oh it was that you have to laugh at all of his jokes like you’ve heard them for the first time, that’s what it was. Just act surprised.”

She continued: “I would say just make sure that Robson has had a cup of coffee in the morning that would help.”

Lauren joked: “Robson is sounding quite high maintenance but I know you love him.” Kacey burst out laughing as she defended the actor and said: “No, no he’s not. He definitely isn’t. He definitely isn’t high maintenance, he is absolutely brilliant.”

She added: “He is one of the executive producers and was really supportive of me doing the writing on the episodes so he is fantastic after a coffee.”

It comes as Robson recently discussed the emotional farewell to his fellow actor Tom Brittany. During an appearance on ITV hit chat show This Morning, the actor admitted: “It was a difficult scene to film. Listen, the reason why I think it’s so successful is that it is so collaborative.

“I mean, last Wednesday, more people in this country watched Grantchester than any other programme at 9 o’clock.”

Robson added: “You’re saying goodbye to someone you love and a journey that you loved going on. That’s what you’re doing, that was tough. The whole team were saying goodbye to Tom.

“We were wishing him well and now he’s off filming in Thailand but it’s a goodbye to the journey and that wonderful relationship that we’ve created and the joy, the laughter. We’re still best of friends, of course!”
