The charging specialists warned it will no longer make sense to purchase combustion models by the end of the decade.

The experts stressed it was “hard to imagine” why as attention shifts to EVs. 

Specialists have even predicted that there will soon come a point where there will be “100% electric sales across the UK market. 

PodPoint made the remarks as they explained how the UK’s upcoming vehicles will affect Britons.

Experts at PodPoint said: “It’s easy to see why you’d buy an electric car by 2030, but it’s hard to imagine why you’d bother with a petrol-powered car. 

“Which means the falling residual values will make internal combustion engine sales unviable by 2030. 

“And that will be job done – 100% electric sales!”

The UK is set to stop the sale of new combustion models by 2035 in a bid to reduce vehicle emissions.

However, Labour are with a manifesto pledge to re-introduce the 2030 date pushed back by the Conservatives.

The force manufacturers to produce a certain number of electric models every year. 

Firms have to meet a 28% EV sales target in 2025 but this slowly rises until hitting 80% by 2030. 

Earlier this month, the warned demand for EVs among private buyers was “weak”.

Data shows just one in 10 private buyers were opting for electric powertrains in 2024 and warned the current demand will not deliver the Government’s ambition.

However, PodPoint stressed that interest could rise as more road users get to test out electric vehicles in the coming years.

PodPoint added: “Through the second half of the 2020s, more and more full battery-electric models will begin to flood the market from a host of manufacturers. 

“This will give drivers the chance to experience the superior performance of electric motoring; instant acceleration, assured handling, effortless driving and the benefit of convenient top-up charging at their home, work and destinations.”
