BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent confesses ‘I was a disaster’ as she admits mum ‘gave up’

star gave a rare insight into her childhood during Tuesday’s show. The 53-year-old was speaking with sports correspondent John Watson when she made a confession about her youth.

It came after John touched on , who was seen back in action without a coach during the first round of the Abu Dhabi Open. He told viewers: “It’s the second competition since parting ways with her coach, who opted to step down.”

As he told and Sally it’s likely she’ll be looking for a new coach, Jon suggested his co-star could do it. He commented: “Are you offering?”

Sally hit back: “No! Can you imagine me?! I’d be the worst. My mum was a tennis coach and she completely gave up on me. I was a disaster!”

Jon found her confession hilarious as he burst out laughing before replying: “I don’t believe it for a minute.”

Elsewhere in the show, Jon and Sally were excited that singing sensation Cydni Lauper was about to join them on the red sofa.

As they handed over to weather presenter , they probed her to show off her own vocal skills.

Sally commented: “Come on, Carol, give us a tune!” Chuckling nervously, Carol quipped: “On your bike Sal! No chance of that.”

Continuing with her forecast, Carol jokingly told viewers she would spare their ears ‘from that misery’. However, after she wrapped up the latest weather news, it seemed as though Sallly and Jon weren’t listening.

Cutting back to them in the studio, it was apparent they were caught off-guard as Jon confessed: “I didn’t hear a word of that because we were gossiping.”

Carol laughed at his frankness before Sally explained their distraction. She told her co-star: “There’s a reason! I’m really sorry, I’ve just been talking over Jon the entire time.

“We’ve been chatting because Cyndi Lauper is here!” Kicking off their interview with the singing sensation, she admitted to Jon and Sally she’s been up since 1am, not able to sleep.

It wasn’t only Jon and Sally who were excited to see Cyndi on the show as viewers were quick to take to Twitter, now X, to share their thoughts.
