She is searching for a new home
A poor pooch who has spent her entire life tethered to a tree is desperately searching for a new home.
German shepherd Lucia has been living amongst the dead in a graveyard for almost four years before being rescued by Freedom Angels Romania, an organisation that aids rescue operations in Romania and rehomes in the UK.
The team took Lucia under their wing after discovering her dire circumstances – and have made it their mission to find her a forever home. Confined by a six-foot chain, Lucia’s days consisted of pacing around the tree until she reached the end of her tether, only to repeat the process. Even after being freed from her shackles by compassionate rescuers, Lucia continued this habitual movement for several days.
Her adoption profile reveals: “Lucia spent her whole life tied to a tree in a graveyard. There were rarely visitors to the graveyard so she just spent her days among the dead. Lucia survived on scraps and drank from a “dirty and dank bowl for water”, seeking shelter under an old oil drum when the weather worsened.
Despite her grim past, Lucia is described as a “bright and immensely loving girl” who thrives on human interaction. The statement continues: “She is currently in our kennels in Wiltshire. Another love is food and this does help with training. She is super smart and has easily worked out her interaction toys.”

Lucia cannot live with other dogs
“Unfortunately being so clever doesn’t work well when a dog is in kennels and she does get very bored.”
This is the challenge faced by Lucia, a dog described by her carers as potentially an “exceptional dog” for someone willing to put in the time to train her and ease her into her new lifestyle.
The team at the rescue have stipulated that Lucia’s ideal owner should be aged 25 or older, with no children under 16 years of age living in the household.
She needs a secure, private garden and should not be left alone for more than four hours regularly. Their statement explained: “Although Lucia loves humans, she does not like other dogs.”
Lucia has received strong reactions online due to her sad situation. A Facebook user expressed deep sympathy, saying: “Oh dear beautiful Lucia! We are trying so hard to find you the right foster. My heart breaks for you.”
They continued to show encouragement, “You look so much better now and your foster will find you soon. Hang in there my smart girl. Good things come to those that wait.”
Another hoped for a resolution, noting: “Someone with German Shepherd experience would love her. Hope she gets a home soon.”
