Russia lost more than 48,000 troops in both December and January
has suffered its two bloodiest months of the so far after losing nearly 100,000 soldiers since the beginning of December.
Figures published by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence show that lost 48,670 personnel in December and 48,240 in January making them the two bloodiest months of the entire conflict.
The casualty figures, which average 1,556 people per day, include those killed, wounded, captured or missing and highlight the ongoing willingness of Russian leaders to sacrifice lives in pursuit of their strategic aims.
The number takes Russian losses to 841,660, according to Ukrainian intelligence, as forces continue to launch offensives in the Kursk and Donetsk regions.
The figures do not include troops.

Ukrainian special forces who have engaged soldiers on the battlefield have spoken of their bravery, fitness and proficiency with small arms.
One Ukrainian Company Commander recently told of their innovative tactics of using soldiers as bait for drones to allow others to shoot them down as he described how many will blow themselves up with grenades rather than be captured.
Volodymyr Demchenko, a Ukrainian soldier, wrote on X last month: “The Koreans have impeccable marksmanship training, which is crucial given their style of warfare. The statistics on the small drones they have destroyed attest to this fact.”
