Vancouver park board says 104 major special events planned for 2025
The Vancouver park board is confident its Stanley Park Railway will be in full service for 2025, with three major events planned.
The 60-year-old railway has run into a string of troubles over the past few years, including the December 2024 shutdown of Bright Nights, when exhaust fumes caused a driver to become sick. This came after ticketing problems for the charity event led to an apology from the parks board.
The Stanley Park train returned for the holiday season in 2023 after being out of commission since 2021 due to various issues, including COVID-19, mechanical woes and coyote attacks.
The parks board report states there are 104 major special events planned for 2025, including six park board-organized events, two events delivered by external partners at VanDusen Botanical Garden and 96 events delivered by external partners across Vancouver parks and plazas.
The two VanDusen garden events are the Sakura Days Japan Fair, showing off the garden’s cherry blossoms on April 12 and 13, and the All British Field Meet car show on May 17.
For runners, there is the First Half Marathon on Feb. 9, St. Patrick’s Day 5k on March 15, Vancouver Sun Run on April 27, BMO Half Marathon on May 4 and the Vancouver Half Marathon on June 22.
