Tottenham have reportedly had a £20million deadline day offer for Burnley star Maxime Esteve rejected. The French centre-back has been linked with a move to the after playing a pivotal role under Scott Parker this season, with The Clarets boasting the best defensive record in the Championship.
Spurs have been chasing reinforcements in the transfer window in a bid to solve their current injury crisis under .
Lens defender Kevin Danso has already come on board from Lens, the Austrian international arriving on a loan deal with an obligation to buy in the summer.
Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel is also set to sign on loan. And now Spurs are trying to get a deal done for Esteve before Monday’s 11pm deadline.
According to L’Equipe, Daniel Levy and co have submitted a £20million bid for the 22-year-old. However, that has seemingly been instantly rejected, with Burnley wanting a fee in the region of £30m.
Esteve joined the club from Montpellier in the summer of 2023, initially on loan. The move was made permanent at the end of last season, and played for his country in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Maxime Esteve has impressed for Burnley this season.
Burnley currently lie third in the Championship, and have conceded just nine times all season. In 30 games, the club have already kept 20 clean sheets, and are on a run of seven games without being breached.
Esteve has been deemed crucial to that run. And last week, he spoke about the organisation and defensive unity behind the remarkable record.
“We worked during pre-season defensively and you see the recovery runs of everyone,” he said. “The winger, the striker, the midfielder, everyone works on the same thing.
