‘s newest signing Kevin Danso failed a medical at just days before moving to north London, according to reports.

It was confirmed on Sunday that Danso had joined Spurs on loan until the end of the season. The deal includes an obligation for Spurs to make his move from Lens a permanent one in the summer.

had been in talks to sign the 26-year-old for most of the January window and he was expected to undergo a medical over the weekend, only for to hijack the move at the eleventh hour.

The same thing reportedly happened last summer, with Roma agreeing to sign Danso before going back on the move at the medical stage.

will be desperately hoping for Danso to stay fit until the end of the season, given the number of injuries plaguing his squad at the moment.

They are perilously short in central defence with Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin all sidelined, meaning it will be crucial to steer clear of any further setbacks.

Postecoglou spoke highly of Danso after his move was confirmed on Sunday, saying: “It’s brilliant [to get him]. I think Kevin will be a great fit for us. We’re a little bit short at the back, we have been for a while.

“He’s just really experienced, a good one-on-one defender. I’ve said before that getting new players in gives us energy and will give the group energy. I’m looking forward to him being part of the group.”

Danso will be available to make his debut when they face in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Thursday.

He already has experience playing in the , having made a handful of appearances for Southampton during a loan spell in the 2019/20 season.

Danso spent much of his childhood in England and began his career with Reading and MK Dons before moving to Europe in 2014 to continue his development.
