The recently labelled this small village near the as “one of the country’s leading luxury destinations”. Jim Walker, president of Cumbria Tourism, hailed it as a “centre of excellence” offering a “super experience for visitors”.

Over the years, Cartmel has transformed from a quiet village, known for its racecourse and stunning 800 year old priory, into a culinary hotspot.

This transformation is largely due to chef Simon Rogan, who opened his three Michelin-starred restaurant L’Enclume in the village about two decades ago, reports .

Here, diners can indulge in an exceptional experience, feasting on ingredients from Simon Rogan’s local Our Farm with a tasting menu priced at £250, definitely a luxury indulgence.

Cartmel may be synonymous with snug pubs rather than high-end dining, and for those seeking the traditional pub vibe, there’s plenty of choice.

A more wallet-friendly alternative awaits at Rogan’s one-starred Rogan and Co with its delectable three-course set lunch menu starting at £49.
