Rumer Willis shares update on dad Bruce Willis’s health after dementia diagnosis

Bruce Willis’s daughter, Rumer Willis, has provided an update on her father’s health following his dementia diagnosis.

The Die Hard star retired from acting in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia, a neurological disorder that affects communication abilities. His condition has since progressed into frontotemporal dementia, a rare and progressive brain disorder impacting the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain.

Speaking on Loose Women via video link on Monday (February 3), Rumer discussed her father’s health and the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.

“He’s doing great. I think, obviously as many people in California, the thing we’re all kind of the most scared, dealing with is just fires and wanting to make sure everything is okay,” she told panellists Kaye Adams and Judi Love.

She also spoke about the close-knit nature of her family, saying: “My family, we’re all so close, I think what’s so beautiful is the way that we rally around each other, [it’s] so lovely, because we really are a unit.”

Rumer, known for her roles in Once Upon a Time in and 90210, also touched on becoming a mother for the first time and how her parents – Bruce and Demi Moore – have been role models for her.

“I think the thing I’m most grateful for is that even when they split up, they created such a beautiful foundation of prioritising my sisters and I, that I never felt like I had to choose or like, they never played against each other,” she said, reports .

“We were a family, and we still are very much a family no matter what. And not only did I feel like that has set me up in my life to have such a beautiful foundation of my own family, but now, as I’m working through co-parenting as well, I feel deep gratitude for the example they’ve set.”

In another part of the interview, the actress opened up about the “challenging” experience of growing up in the public eye, and reflected on the valuable lessons it taught her.

A source recently confided to Life and Style that Bruce’s dementia diagnosis has left him “not the same anymore”, although his “spirit is still there”.

“He’s being brave, but life is also scary for him at times. The public doesn’t see the dark side of his illness. Fortunately, he has his family to support him through what they’ve come to accept as his final chapter,” they added.
