Trevor Noah returned as the host of the on Sunday evening for the fifth consecutive time. The comedian, best known for hosting Comedy Central’s The Daily Show from 2015 to 2022, received a mixed response to some of his jokes, including one about immigration.

He said: “We’ll be honouring the best in music as voted on by the 13,000 members of The Recording Academy and 20 million illegal immigrants. Tonight, no matter what happens, history will be made.”

The joke appeared to elicit groans from the audience and rapper Doechii was seen rolling her eyes.

Social media users reacted to the moment, with one tweeting: “Haha, Doechii’s reaction says it all! Guess that joke didn’t land too well with her.”

Another echoed: “Everybody in that crowd was visibly annoyed by him,” and a third said: “I really didn’t understand the joke.”

It was not the only immigration joke of the night as Trevor also took aim at during his opening monologue.

The comedian quipped: “I don’t know if you noticed there’s been a few changes in Washington. So I’m going to enjoy tonight, because it’s maybe my last time I get to host anything in this country.”

However, his remarks and Trump-related jokes divided viewers. One Twitter/X user commented: “Trevor Noah didn’t waste any time taking a jab at President Donald Trump’s immigration policies #Grammys.” Another praised him, saying: “He’s so real for that tbh.”

Yet, some were less impressed, with one person confessing: “If Donald Trump get Trevor Noah banned I won’t be mad.”

Another echoed the sentiment, stating: “Bye bye! We need someone better hosting,” reports .

Noah also targeted Nick Cannon with a jest about his numerous children before turning his humour towards Beyonce, joking that she was “coming for Andre 3000”.

“She’s nominated for the best country, Best Pop, best American and best melodic brand,” he joked. “Yeah, Andre 3000 better watch out next year. She’s coming for that flute.”
