Don’t miss… [NEWS] [UPDATE]
The former actress has opened a Chinese restaurant.
The revelation comes as the actress candidly shared her struggles with financial hardship, highlighting a period in her life where she found herself relying on food banks to get by.
At one point, her situation became so dire that she sought professional assistance to navigate her troubles.
Cheryl, best known for her role as Heather Trott on the popular BBC1 from 2007 to 2012, opened up about her experience in an interview with The Mirror. She recounted how, after expressing her dire need for help, a member of Citizens Advice took her to her local food bank when she admitted she simply couldn’t afford basic necessities like food.
Reflecting on her past, Cheryl noted how starkly different her financial reality is now compared to her time on the show, when she was living in a period of relative comfort and didn’t even think twice about the prices of items she purchased.
She told the publication: “I sat there and cried and cried. It was shameful. How could I have been on ? How could I have been earning that much money and now I am here?
“It was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. I found it so difficult to be that vulnerable. But I didn’t have any money to do a weekly shop. I was trying to pay too many debts.”
Cheryl’s revelation comes after it was revealed that she had been selling old scripts for quick cash, charging fans £50 per item, and singing in a Chinese restaurant to keep a roof over her head.
Despite earning a decent wage during her time on the show, the mother-of-one was diagnosed with womb cancer in 2015, which stopped her career dead in its tracks and she struggled to recover.
