has split with Gilles Simon weeks after
The world No. 7 was dumped out in the second round of the by 19-year-old Learner Tien.
Medvedev added Simon to his team a year ago, but he has now shared a brutal reminder of their lack of success after they parted ways.
The Russian is back in action at this week’s ATP 500 in Rotterdam, where he is a former champion. Ahead of the tournament, Medvedev announced his split from Simon.
“Gilles joined the team just under a year ago, in February 2024. It honestly was a good experience,” the former world No. 1 said.
Medvedev was unable to lift a single trophy during his time with Simon, and he sent a reminder of their title drought while discussing their split.
He added: “There were a lot of good things me and Gilles [Cervara, his other coach] can take going forward.
“It just didn’t work out exactly the way we wanted in terms of results.” We didn’t win any titles, Slams or anything like this.”

However, Medvedev has no hard feelings about Simon. “I learned a lot of new things and it gave me a new perspective on tennis and I’m sure it’s going to help me in the future,” he continued.
“We will see how it will work out for both of us. We remain with good feelings, but we’re not working together anymore.”
The 28-year-old is still working with his main coach, Gilles Cervara, who has joined him in Rotterdam.
A 20-time title winner, Medvedev is still seeking his first trophy since winning the 2023 Italian Open.
The No. 2 seed in Rotterdam is hoping to bounce back at this week’s tournament. But he has a tough draw, facing former champion Stan Wawrinka in the first round.
Reflecting on his 3am defeat to Tien in Melbourne, Medvedev told the ATP: “It was a tough result in Australia. In a way, it was a good match, but a tough result.
“I am just trying to look forward and bounce back, that is the only way. I have to try to gain some confidence to win some matches.
“I am trying to get my game more competitive. It is not easy but I am working on a lot of things but I think my confidence is the most important.
“Confidence and the work you put in show in the most important moments of matches, and you try and put the reps in to have that belief in your body.”
