Daniel Khalife will be sentenced today for spying for and breaking out of Wandsworth Prison in 2023.

The ex-soldier, who will appear in Woolwich Crown Court, “exposed military personnel to serious harm” by collecting sensitive information while serving in the army.

The 23-year-old was paid in cash and told the agents he would continue to serve for at least 25 years, which prosecutors called “a cynical game” involving “a very large body of restricted and classified material”.

Khalife , a category B prison, in September 2023 by clinging on to the underside of a food delivery truck, but was discovered by a plainclothes detective days later by a canal.

He was found guilty of breaking the Official Secrets Act and the Terrorism Act in November, but cleared of carrying out a bomb hoax.

Daniel Khalife’s sentencing will begin at 10am on Monday at Woolwich Crown Court. 

He will be handed down his term for spying for Iran and escaping from prison.
