A -6C freeze is set to hit the UK
will slam into the UK with a -6C Arctic freeze and snow to sweep across the nation.
The latest from WXCharts show wintery weather is set to hit the country in a fortnight (February 18), bringing with it freezing temperatures, rain and snow.
Temperatures will be lowest in south Scotland (Edinburgh, Dumfries) and north England (Carlisle, Lancaster), where the mercury coulf plummet to lows of -5C. It will also be cold in central Scotland (Inverness, Fort William) and Wales (Cardiff, Conwy) at -3C.
Northern Ireland (Derry, Belfast), the north of England (Newcastle, Sheffield, Liverpool), the Midlands (Birmingham, Milton Keynes) and the southeast (Brighton, London) could see temperatures fall to -2C.
The east of England (Norwich, Cambridge), the south coast (Portsmouth, Bristol), and the southwest (Exeter, St Ives) will sit at 0C.
Most of the country will be below freezing
There is the possibility of snow across the country (Brighton, Norwich, Sheffield, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Wick), being heaviest in the north of Scotland.
The said of the period: “It is most likely that high pressure to the east or northeast of the UK will dominate at first in some form or another, but there is a weak signal for a more unsettled and less-cold spell in the second half of the month, and into the start of March.
“Temperatures may be below average at first, with overnight frosts. Precipitation amounts are also likely to be below average at first, though a few wintry showers are possible.”

Wet and windy weather will move southeastwards across Scotland and Northern Ireland tonight, reaching northwest England and Wales later, by which time showery conditions will arrive in the far northwest. Mostly dry elsewhere, though fairly cloudy, with early fog patches.
Tuesday:
A band of rain, locally heavy for a time, will move eastwards across England and Wales, reaching southeast England later. Otherwise sunny spells, with showers in the northwest. Rather windy.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday:
Blustery, locally wintry, showers in the north easing on Wednesday. Otherwise high pressure giving a lot of fine weather to end the week. Overnight frost and some freezing fog patches.
