It would be easy to dismiss Bianca Censori’s brazen red carpet display as little more than a modern day freak show, but it is altogether more sinister.
Naked and dead-eyed, she looked like a victim who needed rescuing from the sordid world she has found herself in.
But instead the world gawped on as she was paraded up and down at the Grammy awards like goods for sale.
Doing the parading was husband Kanye West. Yes, her husband. A man who made vows to the woman 17-years his junior he married two months after divorcing Kim Kardashian.
Censori arrived on the red carpet wearing a full length fur coat and cameras captured the couple in a tense conversation.
Lip reader Nicola Hickling said West told his wife to take off her coat and reveal all.
She said it looked like the rapper was telling her to “make a scene” before he added: “Drop it behind you and then turn, I got you.”
He, of course, remained fully clothed and wearing shades.
It is the most shocking appearance by the couple so far, which is saying something given their track record.
They were reported to police in Italy over “acts contrary to public decency” following an apparently lewd act.
She has become notorious for her barely there outfits, including being naked under a transparent poncho.
To mark Censori’s 29th birthday in January last year, West declared it would be the year she wore “no pants”. What a gent.
And that is surely the point here. West appears to be the one controlling all of this. Whispering instructions, making public declarations.
Fans said the last spectacle was “disturbing” and “isn’t edgy or artistic”.
Censori is no Madonna, shocking the public, but on her own terms, setting her own agenda.
She is unrecognisable from the happy, smiling architecture graduate pictured before she met West.
If they were poor and unknown, the authorities would be involved.
Instead, West has scored another day of world-wide publicity at the expense of his wife’s dignity.
