Alexander Armstrong gives honest opinion on Pointless without Richard Osman

Alexander Armstrong made a notable appearance on yesterday, where he engaged in a lively discussion about his latest children’s book, which has sparked excitement among young readers and parents alike.

During the conversation, he took a moment to reflect on his relationship with former co-host providing insights into their enduring friendship.

Osman, who stepped back from Pointless in 2022, had made a significant mark on the show, accumulating an impressive record of 1,300 episodes over 30 series.

Since his departure, he has focused on his burgeoning writing career. His thriller novels have resonated with audiences and have experienced considerable success.

Throughout the interview, Armstrong addressed the swirling rumours regarding the state of his friendship with Osman, reassuring viewers that their bond remains strong.

He emphasised that Osman is permanently ingrained in the essence of Pointless, telling hosts and Ed Balls, “I have him in spirit; he’s an indelible part of the format.”

In September 2024, Armstrong released his children’s book Evenfall – The Golden Linnet, a remarkable leap into the literary world.

Aimed at children aged 9 to 12, the book is said to be filled with thrilling adventures, enchanting arcane magic, and the exploration of hidden societies, capturing the imaginations of its young audience and providing a fantastic escape into a world of creativity and wonder.

The release has been met with enthusiasm, further showcasing Armstrong’s versatility as a storyteller beyond his television persona.

The release date saw him go up against Osman, who dropped his book, We Solve Murders, on the very same day.

Armstrong, who attended university alongside Richard Osman, expressed his unwavering support for Osman throughout the years, particularly regarding Osman’s recent projects.

Armstrong spoke fondly of their friendship during an interview with Lorraine Kelly last year, stating, “Richard has been there as a real guiding light the whole way through. He’s been such a help and support at every turn.”

Osman took to social media to share his heartfelt sentiments about his experiences with Pointless’s long-running quiz show.

He wrote, “Working on Pointless has been a joy from start to finish. It has been such a privilege to collaborate with my friend Alexander Armstrong alongside an incredible team that has made every moment memorable.

“I am deeply grateful to the best worldwide viewers who have supported us throughout the years. Though I will miss everyone tremendously, I am excited to announce that I will continue to present the celebrity editions of the show.

He added: “I can’t thank everyone enough for 12 amazing years filled with laughter and learning.”

A brand new run of teatime quiz show Pointless is soon to begin with Series 33 will start airing on Wednesday, February 5, at 17:15 on One.

Comedian and presenter Ellie Taylor co-hosted nine of the previous Pointless series, and will finish off her residency with the first two episodes of the new run airing on Wednesday February 5 and Thursday February 6.
