“The result is really bad. The performance was a little bit better than the last games. We controlled the transitions quite well for Crystal Palace. We suffered two goals that we can avoid and the injury on Lisandro Martinez was tough for the team.
“It’s normal for the fans to feel negative, it is a hard season for them but football can change in certain moments. I will prepare the next game and move forward. Better things will come.”
Martinez’s injury, especially if long-term, will be a considerable blow to United’s prospects. He has started all but three of Amorim’s 20 matches in charge and is the only specialist left-sided centre-back in the squad.
Martinez also had an injury-hit campaign in 2023/24, spending a considerable amount of time out as a result of a knee ligament issue.
He was also sidelined due to a calf sprain and broke his metatarsal, though despite Amorim’s first prognosis United will be hoping that further tests reveal no serious damage to Martinez’s knee.
United have De Ligt, , Leny Yoro and Victor Lindelof to call upon at the back, while Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw can also fill in when necessary.
