once gave a bizarre, no nonsense nickname soon after she entered the Royal Family.
When Meghan first became Duchess of Sussex the then prince was one of the royals who did his best to welcome her, even walking her up the aisle part of the way at her wedding to when her own father could not attend.
It was understood Charles was “terribly touched” to have been asked.
King Charles was reportedly struck by her strength and came up with a peculiar nickname and reportedly bestowed upon Meghan the nickname Tungsten, symbolising her toughness.
Royal expert Katie Nicholl shared this revelation in her 2022 book, The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown.

Meghan’s remarkable attributes were particularly evident during her first joint appearance with Harry, William, and Kate at the Royal Foundation Forum in February 2018.
She said: “Charles reportedly nicknamed his future daughter-in-law Tungsten because of her toughness and resilience.”
Tungsten is a metal that can be found on the periodic table and is known for its high melting point and core strength. It is one of the hardest materials in nature, scoring 9 out of 10 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness.
The royal expert claims that Charles gave Meghan the nickname when she began her life as a working royal after allegedly seeing she was resilient and able to hold her own in front of the public.
Katie Nicholl added that ” was the breakout star of the foursome. She was polished, passionate, and funny, using all her TV-honed skills to present her case”.

It is unclear if the nickname is still used as Harry and Meghan have been estranged from the royals ever since they stepped down as working members of the Firm in 2020.
In other sections of the book, Nicholl mentions the Queen’s wish for Meghan to reconcile with her father, Thomas Markle, before her marriage to Harry.
Concerned that had never met Thomas, the monarch encouraged Meghan to mend fences with her father before the wedding on May 19, 2018.
A close family friend revealed: “It was the Queen’s feeling that Meghan should sort things out with her father and that Harry should have met Thomas before the wedding.”
