At some point in all our lives we have dreamt of having superhuman abilities similar to our favourite cartoons growing up.

Whether it’s having the ability to read people’s minds, the ability to teleport somewhere else or to suddenly become invisible.

Having these types of skills would certainly come in handy in our everyday lives today particularly when life’s burdens can seem too much.

For the most part, these remained unattainable dreams which we left in our childhood as we grew older.

But, there are five individuals who have some of the strangest abilities known to mankind making them modern day, real life superheroes.

Stephen Wiltshire

Wiltshire is a contemporary artist who possesses the ability to recreate skylines and buildings of some of the biggest cities in the world by just looking at it once.

He is well-known for capturing these intricate details in an impressive art collection that’s gained worldwide popularity with grand images of global skylines after mere glimpses.

So intricate and awe-inspiring, Wiltshire was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for his services to art in 2006.

The 50-year old even appeared on where his impressive skills were used to help Clarkson, Hammond and May with their art exhibition in which he drew a car including all its intricate details completely from memory.

Daniel Browning Smith

Smith is a man famed for his ability to bend his body in such a way that he can fit himself in the tightest of spaces.

Known as “The Rubberboy”, this 45-year old contortionist has been dubbed “the most flexible person in history”.

So impressive is his skills, Smith is the proud winner of a whopping seven Guinness World Records including holding the fastest time ever to enter a locked straitjacket.

Turns out though, his impressive skill is due to a medical condition known as hypermobile Ehlers–Danlos syndrome which allows his body to contort in such a way – still managing to pass his whole body through an unstrung tennis racket is pretty monumental.

Thai Ngoc

Ngoc is a Vietnamese farmer with a skill that would be the stuff of nightmares for most.

That’s because he possesses the unusual ability to not have slept for decades, so he claims.

According to Thai’s family, friends and even neighbours, he has not slept since 1962 despite wanting to get some shut eye but simply couldn’t.

Instead, he gets his energy from “green tea and rice wine” which the 80-year-old helps with his severe insomnia.

Natasha Demkina

Demkina claims to have the superpower of an x-ray vision which she says helps her to see inside people’s bodies.

The 38-year-old Russian woman has baffled scientists with these claims after she correctly identified medical conditions in strangers in tests.

She even appeared on in 2004 where she correctly identified host Fern Britton’s sore ankle.

Despite this, not all of her predictions have been correct but in 2005, the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP), found Demkina to get four out of seven people’s medical diagnoses correct, so still pretty impressive.

Wim Hof

Hof has reached global fame thanks to his incredible skill at withstanding extremely low temperatures.

Known as The Iceman, this 65-year-old is another Guiness World Record holder for the farthest swim below ice and also having the title of the longest prolonged full-body contact with ice.

Hof attributes this icy skill to breathing exercises which helps him achieve these mind blowing feats.

The ability to breathe your way into not freezing has become a trend by many today but comes with a big “don’t try this at home” warning.
