A pretty city with its mountain charm, delicious food, and rich history is named one of the “best” for a weekend getaway. Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia & Herzegovina, is a must-visit destination for those looking for an affordable short trip.

Sarajevo is one of the cheapest in Europe, offering incredible value for travellers and expats.

While cities like Sofia (Bulgaria) or Bucharest (Romania) are also budget-friendly, Sarajevo stands out due to its low , affordable food, and cheap accommodation while being a culturally rich and scenic destination.

It is a cultural crossroads where the East meets West, offering a rich history, stunning nature, and an unbeatable local atmosphere.

The popular tourist destination was recently ranked by among the top European cities for a perfect weekend getaway.

One of the travellers commented on TripAdvisor: “I’ve been to so many places in the world, but Sarajevo is absolutely my favourite city. Why? A year ago, we stopped in Sarajevo overnight on the way to Montenegro with our kids, who were 1 and 3 years old. We had no chance to explore the city, but still it was love at first sight. We decided to return again and were lucky to celebrate our 5-year anniversary there this year.

“The city’s beautiful location, lovely little streets, interesting sights, cultural diversity, rich history, nice and friendly people not only met our expectations but even outshined it. I highly recommend it to everyone.”

A second traveller commented: “An amazing place to visit and so much to explore there. Invaders every 50 years, our guide told us. But, the determination of locals got the city back after putting up strong resistance.

“I heard stories from locals when Serbia attacked the city and stories made me cry 3 times. I will visit this area again and stay there for a week and hire a local guide to show us around.”
