Nigel Farage pledges ‘we will not be rejoining’ EU as he marks 5th Brexit anniversary

Nigel Farage marked the fifth anniversary of Brexit on Friday, as he took centre stage during a Reform UK rally held in the North West Essex constituency.

Today, at 11pm, marks five years since Britain left the , an achievement the Reform UK leader spent years campaigning for.

Addressing the 400 Reform UK members who turned out at the rally, Mr Farage said: “For much of my political career and many of those long years that I spent in Brussels and Strasbourg, everybody said to me ‘you’re wasting your time, you’ll never get anywhere, everybody agrees we should be in the ’, and yet, we built up a movement across this country.”

Reflecting on his time campaigning for Britain to leave the EU, Mr Farage said: “I was able to go to the emergency debate in Brussels the day after the referendum, quite extraordinary”.

Speaking of the night that officially happened, the Clacton MP reminisced over the event he hosted in central London, which saw him counting down to 11pm in front of some 100,000 people.

“It was the greatest constitutional victory against the establishment seen for many centuries in Britain,” he said. “We are out and we will not be rejoining.”

The nuclear submarine deal, the lead that the UK took over after ‘s illegal invasion in 2022 and the roll out of the -19 vaccine are examples of actions that the Reform UK leader said Britain could not have achieved had it still been in the EU.

The UK officially left the EU at 11pm on January 31, 2020, after finally broke the three-and-a-half-year-long political deadlock that followed the 2016 referendum.

However, Mr Farage gave voice on stage to the millions of Brexiteers feeling hasn’t been fulfilled, also due to the sheer number of “young men” crossing the channel, having voted for on the promise that the country would regain control of its borders.

The Reform UK leader said people should feel betrayed by “the Conservative Government elected on the back of ”, and not the act of itself.

He closed his nod to the anniversary, concluding: “ was the right thing to do.”
