ITV The Chase fans outraged as player narrowly avoids elimination three times

The Chase’s audience was left seething on Thursday (January 30) as a hopeful competitor narrowly skirted elimination three times.

In the episode aired yesterday, contestants Taven, Sharron, Rumun, and Sally faced off against Shaun Wallace, The Dark Destroyer, vying for a hefty cash prize.

Taven and Sharron were swiftly knocked out of contention, passing the baton to Rumun. The Mancunian contestant scored an impressive £8,000 in his cash builder round, earning high praise from Shaun for his “quality performance”.

“Pulled out some great answers in the cash builder, mate. You’re a good player, a really good player,” he commented.

Upon the departure of the initial duo, Rumun proceeded cautiously, opting for the middle offer. His quiz began well but soon hit a snag as he struggled with several questions, and Shaun seemed close to catching him, reports .

Nevertheless, Shaun himself provided unexpected reprieves by answering incorrectly time and again.

“I tell you what, you are absolutely playing a blinder with the old pressure presses, mate. That is an unbelievable tactic you’re using there,” host Bradley Walsh remarked, visibly astounded by the turn of events.

Rumun’s luck ran out on the concluding question despite his on-the-edge performance, permitting Shaun to catch up. “You should have gone the first time, but it made it an exciting final chase,” he acknowledged, exhibiting palpable relief.

“Superb player, for a young player as well. We get a lot of young players who come on and sort of freeze, but he was absolutely fantastic. Especially in the head-to-heads,” Shaun concluded, acknowledging Rumun’s exceptional showing.

Audiences swiftly expressed their exasperation on X (formerly Twitter), with one viewer posting: “How the F has Shaun let him off three times.” (sic)

“This game is dragging on,” another complained, while a third chimed in: “Not happening with this game today, even Brad looks like he’s given up.”

A fourth fan concurred, saying: “THREE attempts to get him out and Shaun has missed each time!”

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV1 at 5pm
